Just 30 minutes south of the city of Austin and 60 miles northeast of San Antonio, Lockhart is a welcome escape from the stresses of the big city. With a population of 13,760, Lockhart has all the charm of the small, Texas town experience. Lockhart has been named "The Barbecue Capitol of Texas" by the Texas State Legislature. Texas Monthly has honored local barbecue restaurants as among the best in the state.

Lockhart's Caldwell County Emergency Medical Services has three intensive care units and is located within minutes of hospitals in San Marcos, Luling and Kyle.
