This program focuses on eliminating the plagues of Loneliness, Helplessness, and Boredom that make life intolerable in most of today’s long-term care facilities.   

Places that have adopted the Eden Alternative typically are filled with plants, animals and are regularly visited by children. GAH home has cats, birds and sometimes dogs that live amongst our residents. The residents have the opportunity to work with plants in a small garden where tomato and cabbage plants grow in abundance. Children groups from schools, 4-H, boys scouts, girls scouts, etc. come to help lead programs, play games and much more.

Adventure Camp

Unique to Golden Age Home is our Adventure Camp for children and grandchildren of our staff. The week-long camp allows children to attend a day camp where they interact with the residents by making crafts for and with the residents, play games with the residents, lead activities, decorate cupcakes and provide entertainment for birthday parties, and more. The children also get the opportunity to have activities for themselves such as a pool party at the local pool, and a movie outing to the local theater. In addition, the Capital Area zoo brings out animals for the residents and children to enjoy. There are Senior Olympic games run by the children for the residents and then in return, children’s relays run by the residents.  

Other unique Eden Alternative programs include Halloween Carnivals and Easter Egg hunts, open to the community.
