Q. What items do I need to bring?
A. Resident/Family should provide clothing, personal items (toothbrush, pictures, TV, radio/clock, books), name brand items. You are encouraged to decorate and accessorize as you have space.
No extension cords may be used. Power strips may be used in offices only. All room garbage cans must be fire rated. We will furnish at least one per resident. Most plastic garbage cans are NOT fire rated. Golden Age Home curtains may not be replaced or supplemented. Residents may bring in their own bedspreads. Residents sometimes are able to bring in their own beds. Please consult the administrator on this issue. Throw rugs are not allowed in room or rest room.
Medications, including rubbing alcohol and hydrogen peroxide, are generally not allowed at bedside. If you have questions on this issue, please see the director of nursing. Bar soap is not allowed. We will provide liquid soap.
A. We have no set visiting hours. People are able to visit there loved ones around the clock. However, visitors need to be respectful of other residents. Top
Q. Who does my loved ones’ laundry?
A. Families always have the option of doing a loved ones’ laundry. An airtight hamper must be provided when the family has chosen to do the resident’s laundry. The facility will do the laundry for a nominal fee for residents who are private pay. Medicaid/Medicare funding includes laundry services. Residents are asked to label all clothing to be washed in the facilities laundry. Also know that we wash all items on hot. Top
Q. How much spending money will my loved one need?
A. There are few opportunities to spend money in the nursing home. We do have a Soda Shop open for the residents to buy sodas, snacks, etc. The hair dresser/barber is another expense that may be accrued. Both of these items could be taken out of the residents’ trust fund. It is not necessary for a resident to have cash in their possession. Please use your judgment and limit cash to a small amount. Q. What is a trust fund? Does every resident have a trust fund?
A. A trust fund is when the facility holds money for an individual. This fund is optional and must be authorized by the resident or family. This is usually done at the time of admission but can be at a later time. The facility is required to hold the money in an interest bearing account and to make that money available for the residents’ use as needed.
Generally a resident or responsible party can request money from the trust fund by filling out a resident trust check authorization form during normal business hours. Activity staff can help with filling out the form. Receipts must be turned in to account for the money. Top
Q. My loved one needs to be in a nursing home. What funding sources are available?
A. Nursing Homes often cost more than normal monthly retirement income. Each situation requires a different approach. Medicaid may be the solution for someone with low fixed income. Veteran’s benefits may be more appropriate for someone who qualifies. Please speak with the Social Worker for specifics. Professional help, such as an attorney specializing in Elder Law, may be needed to secure funding. One such attorney (Elizabeth Raxter) has an office in our facility. Top
