Nursing Home Policies
Golden Age Home is a place where our residents can socialize and participate in activities. Our Activity Department offers a wide variety of activities ranging from bingo, games, arts and crafts, entertainment, exercise programs and one-on-one visits. All residents are included in activities whether it is in their room or at a social event. Activities are geared towards the individual’s awareness, likes and dislikes.
Dental Examinations
Please remember that everyone, even the nursing home resident, should have a routine, annual dental examination each year. It can be an important part of health maintenance. Such an examination will be at the cost of the resident or his/her family.
Pets
At Golden Age Nursing Home we have community pets, such as dogs, cats and birds. They are taken care of by the staff and are allowed to wander the facility. With the introduction of animals we want to enhance the daily living of our residents, volunteers, staff, and family members. See the Eden Alternative program for more information.
Photographs
On some occasions photographs are taken of Golden Age Home residents for activity or publicity purposes. These photographs are regularly displayed. Please inform us if there is any problem involved in your resident’s participation.
On some occasions photographs are taken of Golden Age Home residents’ bodies for medical records reasons. Such photographs would only be released at the request of the resident for medical or legal reasons. Please inform us if there is any problem involved in your resident’s participation.
Restraints
It is the policy of Golden Age Home to provide an environment with the least possible restrictions on the personal freedom of our residents. Personal restraints are rarely used for residents. It is our goal to exhaust all other avenues before relying on a restraint. We prefer to alter the environment or equipment if possible. (Example, we may use a lower bed with a pad on the floor for a resident at risk of rolling out of bed at night instead of placing bed rails on a higher bed)
Scooters
Scooters can be a hindrance to physical therapy rehabilitation if not used properly. All residents wishing to use a scooter must demonstrate proficiency prior to their usage.
Sitter Policy
In the event that family members or the resident wish to hire a private sitter, Golden Age Home policy must be followed. That policy requires that individuals who take care of activities of daily living be certified nursing assistants. The certified sitter must report to the Executive Director or the Director of Nursing upon hire. No former employee who has been fired for cause can be hired as a sitter.
Smoking
Golden Age Home is a no smoking facility. Residents, staff, and visitors may smoke in designated outside areas. Residents will be evaluated by the Social Worker to determine whether or not they are able to smoke unsupervised. Golden Age Home encourages all residents and staff to stop smoking for good health.
