At Golden Age Home, we truly believe ALL Seniors deserve dignity, belonging, and purpose regardless of financial status. From Golden Age Home’s conception, taking care of those with less financial means was always a consideration. In the late 1990s, Golden Age Home added Affordable Independent Housing Units through a 15-year program with TDHCA. When this program ended in 2012, the Board of Directors decided to keep the units under the same reduced rates because they recognized the need had not gone away. Since 2012, the program has been sustained through grants and fundraising.

The affordable housing program has provided more than just shelter. Housekeeping, healthcare oversight, meals, emergency assistance, and social engagement are just a few of the “extra benefits” of all residents living at Golden Age Home. There are other similar affordable housing units throughout town, but none of them offer these extra wrap-around services that truly help a resident thrive. Over 400 seniors have benefited from the affordable housing program since it began in the late 1990s. They have received more than an apartment. They received family and an improved quality of life. These seniors did not have the financial resources to afford these extra services and would have found these accommodations out of reach. Our Services Include:

• Daily Essentials: Three home-cooked meals, housekeeping, and enriching social programs

• Additional Support (Optional): Assistance with laundry

• Visiting Providers: Physicians, podiatrists, psychiatrists, nurses, and therapists

• Transportation: Bi-weekly trips to Walmart, plus medical appointment transportation (small fee applies)

• Included Amenities: Utilities, cable TV, emergency call system, Emergency lifeline pendant, 24-hour on-call staff, and full maintenance

Ms. Ruby lived at Golden Age Home Assisted Living from 2011 until shortly before she passed away in 2017. Ms. Ruby worked as a LVN for 42 years; the last 9 years were in the Golden Age Home Nursing Home.

Ms. Ruby lived a hard life. She grew up in an abusive household. This upbringing led her to cherish others above herself and made her a very compassionate nurse. She was determined to do everything she could for her patients.

There are 10 Independent Units at Golden Age Home for senior adults ages 55+. An individual must qualify under the Section 8 definition of low income to qualify for these units. There is generally a waiting list for these units. Call 512-398-2421 for information about availability and pricing.
