Support Golden Age Home
Golden Age Home has long been a sanctuary for senior adults, offering them a nurturing environment rooted in Christian values and compassionate care. Our commitment to affordability and quality care is unwavering, and through the generosity of donors like you, we can continue this mission.
We truly believe ALL Seniors deserve dignity, belonging, and purpose regardless of financial status. From Golden Age Home’s conception, taking care of those with less financial means was always a consideration. In the late 1990s, Golden Age Home added Affordable Independent Housing Units through a 15-year program with TDHCA. When this program ended in 2012, the Board of Directors decided to keep the units under the same reduced rates because they recognized the need had not gone away. Since 2012, the program has been sustained through grants and fundraising. Additionally, all units are purposely priced 80-90% of the surrounding market rate to stay in line with the economic abilities of our community. The affordable housing program has provided more than just shelter. Housekeeping, healthcare oversight, meals, emergency assistance, and social engagement are just a few of the “extra benefits” of all residents living at Golden Age Home.
One touching example of the impact of our low-income program is Ms. Ruby's story. Whom was residing in our independent wing, she received comprehensive care that significantly improved her health and social engagement, honoring her legacy of service to others. Without this program, Ms. Ruby's health could have severely declined. Our commitment is to continue such essential support, reflecting our core mission of compassionate care.

Statistics
Statistics show that seniors relying solely on Social Security are more likely to live in poverty, lacking essential services. Poor housing conditions can lead to health issues, with low-quality environments correlating with a 50% increase in emergency room visits.
Traditional in-home services or nursing home care, often unaffordable, lead seniors to overutilize Medicaid or emergency services, straining these systems.
Caldwell County has areas of concentrated poverty and households that live above the federal poverty line but earn less than the basic costs of living for the county. In 2023, Caldwell County at $68,503 had a lower median household income than both Texas ($72,284) and the U.S. ($80,610). In addition, 15% of people in Caldwell County lived below the federal poverty level (2015-2019). These numbers continued to increase during the pandemic and post-pandemic period to 18.6%.
In 2023, 21% of the population was living with severe housing problems in Caldwell County, TX. From 2014 to 2023, the indicator grew by 0.888% (Data USA). According to Feeding Texas, the state of Texas has the second-highest number of adults aged 50 and older facing hunger in the nation, with 1,098,400 older adults experiencing food insecurity. Texas also faces challenges with affordable housing and homelessness, which can disproportionately affect seniors.
In Texas, a significant number of senior citizens face both food and housing insecurity. Texas ranks high nationally for the number of older adults experiencing hunger, with a substantial percentage of seniors struggling to afford adequate nutrition and housing. This is particularly concerning as older adults often have limited mobility, chronic health conditions, and fixed incomes, making it challenging to access resources.
